today is Jan 1, 2017. I'm posting a couple recent art pieces I completed over my holiday break.

These are both done in cold wax and oil paint. I'm very much a newbie to this medium. I think it's compelling and I can't get enough. It does take much longer to dry the layers so, I'll probably also be learning patience. That's got to be good right?

"Blue_untitled" (for now)

                                                  "Red sky_ delight"

I'll try to come  back and add notes about these 2 pieces. I really like them. Better than imagined :)

lessons from knuckleball pitchers

“Knuckleballers don’t keep secrets. It’s as if we have a greater mission beyond our own fortunes. And that mission is to pass it on, to keep the pitch alive.” (Kleon, Austin)

So, the moral of the story is: find your fellow knuckleballers. There may not be more than a handful of them, but they're out there.

Tangle for today, well really, yesterday: a model for our Holiday Card:

Why Hexagram 39?

ok to get started, why Hexagram 39?

I asked the i Ching to give me some guidance for  blog name that would fit my intention:

to share with you the weird and informative (hopefully) things I'm working on.

The result: Hexagram 39

Cast Hexagram:

39 - Thirty-Nine

Chien / Obstacle

Ominous roiling in the Crater Lake atop the Volcano:
When meeting an impasse, the Superior Person turns his gaze within, and views the obstacle from a new perspective.

Offer your opponent nothing to resist.
Let a sage guide you in this.
Good fortune lies along this course.

SITUATION ANALYSIS:

The Obstacle lies in obstinance.
An insistence on only one way of proceeding has brought things to an impasse.
You may either continue banging your head with irresistible force against this immovable object, or you might step back and survey this situation from a fresh perspective.
Which is immobile here -- the obstruction or your attitude?

This could be extremely fitting... so here goes

so, thanks iChing online--
